EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (ERT)
The Emergency Response Team was created by National President Brian Renfrow, who wanted to ensure that carriers receive support during the most difficult circumstances.
What is the ERT?
The ERT is a team of trained carriers who provide support during crises, including the unfortunate loss of a carrier — whether on duty or off duty. These moments deeply affect the entire postal family, and the ERT ensures no carrier faces them alone.
How the ERT is Activated
Activation occurs when:
-
A Branch President, or
-
Any member of the branch
contacts the Business Agent’s Office. The office then coordinates the response and deploys a team to that branch for several days.
The ERT does not arrive unannounced. Behind the scenes, communication occurs with:
-
The Postmaster
-
Union leadership
-
Branch officers
So, the office is aware and prepared.
What the ERT Provides
ERT members are carriers trained to support coworkers through:
-
Grief
-
Shock
-
Emotional distress
-
Workplace trauma
